Jira-developers group is self-populating

Hi, in our JIRA (v5.0.1#721-sha1:838c4a0) implementation, we removed almost all the people from the standard jira-developers group to better control end-user access. We were down to three users in that group. Howver, now the group is back up to 19 members. I am the only person administering the site and I have not manually added any staff to that group. Is there any other process that may be occurring to explain this unexpected behaviour?

None of my other groups have added members without me controlling it.

Check global permissions - Jira will be automatically adding new users to all groups in the "can log in" permission, so if you've got jira-developers in there...
