Jira on cluster of mysql Servers

Is it possible to run JIRA with a cluster of MySQL DB's behind it (multiple servers behind a VIP), or is clustering not recommended?

You can do it, but it is absolutely mandatory that JIRA only effectively sees a single, standard database connection to a single database.

For proper use of clustering, you'd need to move to JIRA Data Centre.
