Jira priorities fields

We have a set of priorities with descriptions that are used for defects. As we want to use Jira for new projects and changes the those priorities and descriptions no longer fit.

Can different projects use different priorities?

No. Priority is a globally set field and we're still waiting for Atlassian to fix this flaw (it's been 8 years...)

there is an issue for that: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-3821

Unfortunately it is open for almost eight years now.
