Jira reporting from an excel dump of Jira stories

Paul Merrill January 18, 2024

We use Jira for some areas of the organisation but it's pretty much vanilla Jira and there is little likelihood they will spring for any plugins. What I can do is extract information to excel (CVS) and then do some reporting from there but it's quite painful.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of someone who has created a suite of reports in Excel where the data is sourced from a CSV file?

I can, if I spend a few days/week create such an Excel spreadsheet, but I really don't want to go down that path if there is something out there in the public domain.

Out of curiosity, if I did create a suite of reports that is fed from a Jira dump, is there any interest?

Yep, tons and tons of people have, and we all spent a few days / weeks to create such an Excel based report. Most of us build Excel based reports that dynamically get the data via the REST API and bypass using an exported CSV.

You only want to go down this path if you need to provide very obscure or very special / unique statistical reports, because the time and effort required justifies it. For the other 99% of the time, all the built-in or third party reporting tools for Jira or Confluence are a much faster and more productive solution.
