Jira tickets in custom fields

I am using a custom (text) field to capture Release notes and related Jira tickets.

I thought it would work like the Description field: typing out the URL shows the url, but typing the ticket number shows the JIRA Ticket status.

This is not working in my new custom field:

the url shows the url, and the ticket number becomes the 'alias' for the link:

How can I change my custom field so it renders like in the Description field??
