Jira v. 8 through the back-door - "We are NOT happy"!

bauerprocessconsulting April 2, 2019

We decided to wait before going Jira v8. Veeeery carefully upgraded to 7.13.1, upgraded add-ons to last version supporting 7.13.1 - all without any problems.

Then - feeling unusually lucky - i ventured to upgrade Jira Service Desk to last version 4.0.2, after carefully verifying that it supported Jira 7.13.1.

BAAAD idea!

Jira Service desk "decided" (sorry for anthropomorphism) to sneek Jira Core v8 in through the back-door....

Now Automation is dead. Exalate malfunctions. Dashboard gadgets are missing - plus the headaches I didn't even notice so far!

"We are NOT happy"!

I don't think you "carefully verified that it supported Jira 7.13.1" enough.  I know the docs and know where to look, so I found the requirement for Jira Core 8 immediately.

But, I don't think the docs do a good job of warning you about the platform requirements and dependencies.  It is there, under https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjira/jira-applications-compatibility-matrix-875304597.html and mentioned in other places.

https://confluence.atlassian.com/servicedesk/jira-service-desk-4-0-x-upgrade-notes-961777470.html does say "you need to review the Jira 8 notes", but that only implies that you need Jira 8 to run SD4, it does not state it - the language is very weak.
