Kanban Board in a Scrum Project?

solomani April 1, 2020

Hi all,

I am trying to add a Kanban board to a Scrum Project - the reason is that it is essentially a hybrid project will the software development component will be managed in sprints but non-dev tasks - like more project-specific admin/governance tasks - I would like to use Kanban as that fits better.

When I go to create a new board in my project I can't select it - I guess this is because I picked Kanban as the board type and enabled sprinting in the project options?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @solomani

You mention that you created a Kanban project and enabled sprinting via project options - is your project a Next-Gen project?

If yes, you can only have one board per project at this stage using the project features. Your alternatives are:

  • Move to a Classic Project. Projects and Boards are not as related in Classic, allowing you to have two boards - one Scrum and one Kanban - with different filters.
  • Create a "classic Kanban board" for your Next-Gen project. You'll need to search for the issues first and created a saved filter to create the board from - then create the board via Quick Search (keyboard shortcut: / ) > Boards > Create Board.

That's a shame. Hopefully, that functionality returns.  Will stick to using filtering.
