Kanban backlog - list left most column & another column in backlog

Ram Kumar Subramaniam October 21, 2021

 Hi there,
As per the Jira documentation (quoted below), the left most column in a kanban board(cloud) has a grey representation indicating that the column has tickets which are new. When Kanban backlog is enabled, the tickets in the left most column and the backlog are listed in the backlog for the board separately. Is it possible to have two columns in Grey so that tickets under both these columns can be displayed in the backlog separately(left most column, another column in grey and the regular backlog)

Each column has a grey, blue, or green color, as shown in the screenshot above.
* The single left-most column will always be grey, representing items in 'new' state.

* The single right-most column will always be green, representing items in a 'successful' state.

* The middle column (or columns if you add more) are always blue, representing items in progress.

Note : When tickets are listed in the backlog, it should be under the heading of the column (just like tickets in the left more column)

Hi @Ram Kumar Subramaniam -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

What problem are you trying to solve by doing this?

I note in one of your comments that you asked about having multiple status values for issues in a "backlog" condition.  For a team using Kanban methods, I am unclear why that would be; that seems to indicate work is in some state of "in progress" and not actually "not started/to do".

Perhaps there is some other attribute, not status, which is you need.  To address those, components, labels, or other field indication may help instead.

Kind regards,
Bill

Scenario is the outcome of the process needs to be prioritized before being picked up by another (Separate projects).

I changed the statusCategory too however it looks like only left most columncan be displayed in the backlog.

Note : Customizing to our specific needs. I am aware about other

Yes, that is correct; when using a backlog only status values mapped to the leftmost column of the board are shown in the backlog view.

Hello @Ram Kumar Subramaniam ,

I tried by, it's not possible to have 2 gray color columns in Kanban board.

if you have that kind of need, you can enable Kanban Backlog and in Kanban board columns you can add the another in left side one. image.png

I tried Simplified workflow also by adding a new Column  with Gray status, but it not went well.

Thanks,

Thank you very much for your suggestion. I already had the backlog enabled and my backlog already has the backlog and the left most status column listed in the Kanban backlog.

We have a specific scenario where we want another column(tickets with a particular status) to appear in the backlog.

I have used a simple work around, however it would really help if Atlassian adds this as a feature.
