Given that Jira Software Data Center allows you to have Sprints, Sprint Boards, Kanban Boards and Backlogs for both Kanban and Scrum projects what's the point of having two separate project types? Are there any real distinctions between these two project types given their shared ability to have these features?

Hey @Steven Janvrin
I'm using a cloud environment, but I feel it's similar there too.
This is just my option but I would have thought this was introduced to combat the evolution of the way teams may want to work.
I think the previous set up was once you've selected a project type, you were very much locked in. And if you wanted to change the ways of working, in this case changing from Kanban to sprints you'd have to spin up a new project.
This functionality of allowing teams to create scrum and kanban boards under one project allows teams to evolve but stay in one place as business needs change. Especially if you have a project set up to perfection and want to expand it's functionality.
Anyway, just my thoughts.
Aaron.
Hi Aaron - thanks for the reply. I agree with your thoughts, but hopefully someone from Atlassian will see this and comment. If not I'll accept your answer and close this thread.
