I am working on an inactive user cleanup of jira and confluence users using the last active date for each app respectively. I just noticed that the information is not accurate or at least as I would expect it to be. Good example is my account. I use Jira every day and Confluence most days. I know the data can be delayed by up to 24 hours but it says that I have never accessed Confluence which is obviously incorrect. Other users show recent access so this is working for some users but now I don't trust the data for my purposes. Am I misunderstanding the way this data works or is this a bug? Does anyone have any suggestions for a better way to evaluate user inactivity?
Hi @Megan Ferguson,
I found a ticket related to the information displayed about last user activity with more background on how to interpret what you see: ID-8046 / I would definitely recommend reading through the Last active date explanation section in the issue description. Hopefully, that may explain any of the apparent inconsistencies you may see in the UI.
As an alternative to the UI, you may also want to explore the REST API to retrieve a users last active dates.
Hope this helps!
If you need a guide to understand Atlassian's unconventional definition of 'last active date,' then there is something terribly wrong

This just caused some issues at my company where we remove access from people who had not had any activity in months (according to the users page) or had never gotten past "Invited Status". Neither of these things seem accurate and it is causing some work and headaches for my IT team.
