Link based synchronizer

I would like to use structure with the link-based synchronizer. After I had read the documentation and FAQs, I realized that this synchronization will differ from the sub-task based synchronization, but I still cannot define it in the desired way. Looks like nothing happens after the synchronizer is defined. So my questions is: How can I properly configure the issue->structure sync, based on the specific link types. I would like the structure to be updated automatically once a link is created for the one of the structure issues. I will have issues with this kind of link that do not belong to the structure, so "excluzive" option will not work for me. Filter based synchronizer will not work as well, since it will require a lot of filters to be created manually. The structure I am trying to create: user story->test set->test case->test run with 3 different link types. Thank you.

Does this synchronizer limitaion still exist in 2013? I need to set up a synchronized structure using multiple link types, like the original poster. As a new Structure user, it seems to stillnot work in the way I had expected. If this limitation is not present anymore, please give me a hint on how to set up the synchronizers.

Hi Doug, Links synchronizer has improved since Nov '11 - it is possible now to set up two Links synchronizers working with different link types, but you'll need to specify parent and/or child JQL to limit the scope of each sync.

Yana, it seems to me that what you need accomplished cannot be done with the current version of the Links synchronizer. The current possible configurations are limited and we plan to improve the synchronizer, adding many more options that will allow one to define what to do in which cases to a great level of precision.

Among planned improvements:

• Support for multiple link types in one synchronizer
• Support pulling new issues into structure if they are linked from other issues inside structure
• Listening for links being created/deleted and reacting immediately (right now only Resync can update structure from links)

For now, the only functionality that is delivered is the one described in the documentation - sorry! The workarounds may include:

• configuring Links synchronizers with Filters sync as you mentioned,
• somehow changing which links you use for what (for example, introduce a new Link Type specifically for this structure and sync with it in Exclusive mode)
• using Structure API and coding your own synchronizer (for JIRA ninjas)
