Linking Issues and Merging data from one issue to another

apologies in advance as i try to explain this situation.

if i have one type of issue (which i call open contracts) that has a contract number but no shipment and other types of issue (which i call open shipments) with no contract number and eventually in our business cycle we pair the shipment  with the contract.  I have been playing with Jira and see that i can link them but wondering if there is a way to once a shipment is linked to a contract the shipment issue could take info from certain fields and plug in to its fields. Does anyone have any ideas or add ons that would help solve this?
