Hello everyone,
I would like to create a kanban board for our product team and link it with an existing scrum board. does Jira support this? if yes, how can I configure that?
Hi @Amirhossein fathollahi madani,
Both a scrum and kanban board (in Jira Software, Company Managed projects) select their data from an underlying filter. If you navigate to the board settings, on the general tab you will find that Board Filter.
The only thing you need to do to set up a scrum and kanban board with the same data, is make sure you include the data that is on your scrum board on the kanban board as well.
To create an additional board, just open the dropdown where you see the name of your scrum board and click Create Board:
Select Create a kanban board, base it on an existing saved filter or project and assign it the same source as your scrum board. That should create your kanban board and have it display the same data as on your scrum board.
Just keep in mind that a board is first of all a view on a list of issues in Jira. It can be seen perfectly separate from a project, as you can easily create any saved filter as a source for any board. And so you can perfectly create multiple boards to visualise and work with the same data. But when you see the same issue on 2, 3 or more different boards, be aware that every change to the issue impacts how you see that issue on all those boards.
Hope this helps!
First of all I would like to thank you for your respond to my question even though it points out to a different problem.
let me clarify my question, so hopefully we’ll address my need.
considering existing scrum board we already have for our technical team where we track features, tasks, bugs, and technical debt, also in product team, We are planning to have every stage of our work organized by tracking new feature requirement preparation process. it includes steps such as brainstorming new ideas , preparing business requirement docs ( e.g., acceptance criteria, user stories) and initial designs ( sketches, wireframes for design team).
since these couldn’t necessarily happen in sprint format ( scrum ), I am wondering if I could create a kanban board for product team and accordingly a board for design team so we could link them all together, the way that product team output Would be an input for design, and respectively design output would be a feature in technical team backlog.
I am wondering if I could do them all in Jira and would really appreciate it if you could help me with that.

Yes, that's perfectly clear, but Walter has already said what you should be doing - Select Create a kanban board, base it on an existing saved filter or project and assign it the same source as your scrum board. That should create your kanban board and have it display the same data as on your scrum board.

Once I tried to create a new kanban board for the product team. First, I followed the steps as discussed by you and Walter, I chose "Board from an existing project whereas I faced a strange issue that I couldn't find the main project that my scrum board is linked to in the dropdown.

@Amirhossein fathollahi madani were you able to actually find a way to link the two boards?
