Make fields not appear in Jira Portfolio (Data Center)

Hi all, hoping someone can help me. I was on to Atlassian support, but they have added my request as a Feature request.

There are 10+ fields created in Jira which are used to capture some important values during certain transitions. These fields are editable only in the pop-ups during the transitions and not available in the Edit screen. But we recently found that these fields can be added to the Portfolio and be edited by anyone as Portfolio by default is open to all users of Jira.

Is there any way to restrict the availability of the fields in Portfolio? Restrict the edit permission of Portfolio is possible, but very tough to achieve as we don't know how many portfolios are around in the organisation.

Any help is much appreciated and please watch and vote the Feature Request, https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JPOSERVER-2749 too. This may be useful for many organisations.
