I have created a custom field "X" for the issue type bug which is not mandatory , but when person close the bug then we have to make that field mandatory( means without filing that filed , person cannot close the bug ) , how is thing possible in JIRA ?
After creating the validator also its not behaving correctly.
The transition requires the following criteria to be valid
Field "X" should be modified during the transition.
Error message: Mandatory Field.
But when i go and create the issue and then try to close it. It is not giving me any error and closed directly.,
PS: After creating validator is it required to publish the workflow first ??
You are editing a draft workflow. Publish Draft Discard Draft View original ( This message is coming at top of the screen

Yes it is required to publish workflow for any changes.
Also, change each change one state to another is different transition (unless explicitly shared) and will require you to configure validator for each step.

If we publish like when items will be moved to close, from any state , then only it will apply ?
will that work.
Also there isnt any option available to make the field mandatory, but the available option is to change the field when status will be moved to closed

@Ankush Goel This is very much possible in Jira.
You will need to create Validator on transition to accomplish this.
You can learn about validators here - https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiracloud/using-validators-with-custom-fields-776636707.html

Hi @Ankush Goel
If you use the Field Required Validator within the workflow, transition properties, then you will be able to make the field mandatory.
