Management Reporting

Greg Geary May 8, 2019

What is the best approach (dashboards, third party reports) to showcase to management the capacity/bandwidth across entire IT department?

Ideally management would like to see a report showing the portfolio of projects across teams.

How have others approached this with JIRA?

Hi @Greg Geary ,

There are a number of ways to do this, some better than others. What is "best" depends on what type of reports you are looking for.  If you have the budget for it, I suggest something like EasyBI It is available for Cloud and Server and seems pretty robust. This is probably your best option, but like any app it can get pricey if you have large user base.

You can also go the Portfolio route with either Portfolio for Jira, BigPicture, or Structure; they all have their pros and cons, depending on what you are looking for.

All of these add-ons are available for 30 day free trials.

Or, if purchasing an add-on is not an option you can use dashboard gadgets to pull the information you are looking for from filters.  Depending on the audience, I use a combination of Two Dimensional filters, Pie Charts, Issue Statistics, and Sprint, Epic, and Release burndowns to name a few.

I've also seen people just export their filter results into a csv file and then use Crystal Reports or Excel pivot tables to create their reports outside of Jira.

Hope this helps,

-Scott
