Markdown formatting with smart-values (Customer Notifications)

Hello!

Jira newbie here...

I am setting up the Customer Notifications for "Public comment added", and I want to pull the smart-value ${comment} into the email as bold text so it stands out.

*${comment}*

works fine.. as long as the comment is one continuous line (no hard returns) and there are no attachments. Otherwise, the comment is not bold, and you see the asterisks as text. See below...
