Migrate JIRA project from one server to another

Defny April 16, 2018

we have to migrate a project from the IT server to our server. Initially we planned to do it using export in CSV file and import it on our server but we also need comments and attachments. We thought of project configurator plugin but for this our versions should be same. Our IT server JIRA version and our JIRA version is not same. Could you please help us on this.

Hi Debasruti,

Thank you for your question.

You are correct that to migrate a complete project between Jira Instances that the versions must be the same.

If you are unable to upgrade one instance to make both versions the same version then we recommend you create an intermediary instance to use by following the steps below.

  1. Install a temporary Jira instance that is the same as the source instance.
  2. Restore a copy of the source instance including attachments into the temporary instance.
  3. Upgrade the temporary instance to be the same version as the target instance.
  4. Create the complete project export on the temporary instance.
  5. Restore the exported project into the target instance.
  6. Remove the temporary instance once the project is migrated across.

Thank you so much for quick answer. The solution provided we can try this on our test server but the problem is that IT server jira version and our test server Jira version is same. But our production server version is lower version. Will this work? we want to implement this on our production server.

Thanks
