Modify JIRA Issue Detail Screen

I was wondering whether it was possible to modify the fields on the Issue Detail screen (Assign, Edit, Assign To Me etc) on a project?

I want to add some custom fields and I'd like to remove some unused fields from that screen. Thanks in advance.

Jubin, thank you very much for your contribution. This is really what I was looking for. I was really close to the solution, but among so many configuration options I felt lost. Now if I can continue to configure our system. THANKS!
