Moving Jira Server from AWS to VMWare

Naresh Pothula August 15, 2019

Hi,

I am new to VMWare, so learning the stuff. Trying to understand is there any recommendations/pre-requisites to consider before moving the Jira server from AWS to Vmware.

Can I use the AWS Import VM option to transfer the image to VM and use? Is there in best practices in this regard?

* Presently Jira server running on the self-hosted machine on AWS. We are about 100 users.

Thank you!

Naresh,

If you can create an image of the server on AWS that you can load on VMware then is should be a simple shift and lift.  You will need to deal with DNS, IP, etc after the image is spun up on VMware but it should be doable.  If the database is on the same image this will be easier.  If it is not on the same DB you will have to deal with routing issues, etc.  You can look at just migrating it, instructions here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/migrating-jira-applications-to-another-server-938846962.html  This would be a little bit more work but might be easier to troubleshoot issues.
