Multiple Instance of Jira/Confluence for development - one license

d_jeffbethune December 6, 2018

Hello,

I am developing Jira and Confluence using Server, and wonder if there is an easy option under our single license for running a separate instance as a development sandbox - ie, many users can have admin privileges to try out different features: workflows, issue types, screens, etc.

For obvious reasons, we do not want to grant open access to our production instance, and would like to 'port over' the developed workflows etc after they have been tried in the sandbox instance.

Thanks

Hi Jeff

For server products you can deploy non-production/development instances of each application (e.g. Jira, Confluence) and the user limit is up to purchased user tier for your license. So if you have a 1000 users license used in production now, you can have a 1000 user development license for your test instance(s). These are available via your MyAtlassian portal.

You can also use evaluation licenses but these are typically limited to a time period of 30 days but do allow unlimited users.

As far as Jira workflows go you can just export these from you test instance and import into production via the administration UI when editing the workflow. There are also various apps on the marketplace to can copy entire project configurations, fields, etc from one Jira instance to another.

I hope this answers your questions.

Thanks, That is exactly what I was hoping for.

I investigate setting that up immediately.
