Multiple initial transitions (eg. "Draft" and "Awaiting Approval" buttons on Create Issue)

Is it possible to set up a Jira workflow where there are 2 possible statuses to transition to upon creating issue?

...a Status button will appear in the Create Issue dialog and allow you to select any of the Statuses in the workflow that has a Global transition into it for the specified issue type.

The issue is created in the initial status specified in the workflow, but then immediately transitions to the Status selected in the dialog.

Not really. There is only one initial transition and that cannot be changed.

However, there is a workaround possible. I assume that you have rules to determine whether an issue should go to one status or the other. You could add a transition from the initial status to the other one and use Automation to automatically transition an issue into the other status upon creation if it meets certain criteria:

• trigger: issue created
• condition: <whatever logic you would like to use>
• action: transition issue (to the status you want to)
