Need a custom field that updates the value with an +1 increment when new issue is created

need custom field to be populated automatically with +1 increment when new issue is created 

eg - issue JIRA - 1 , field X value  -M001, then when JIRA - 2 is created field x values automatically set to M002 and so on

Could you explain what you are trying to achieve here?  Of what use would this field be to your users and reports?  Why is the issue key, or even issue id, not the right thing to use for a unique and sequential identifier?

im not sure on what hosting you’re talking about so I’ll assume it’s server. 

do you care about the number after the m ? If not would it be ok using the same number than the issue number? 

You can do it easily with script runner copying the number of the issue and then adding m before the value. I’ve done this before for creating slug for product automatically and it work like a charm using the number of the issue.
