Need help on how to upgrade Jira 8.5.6 standalone to a current version

I am new to Atlassian products.  At my work, they currently running Jira 8.5.6 standalone on Windows server 2016 with SQL server 7.2.1.0.  I do not see Atlassian Jira install on the server, but do see Jira Software directory in one of the drive on the server. My boss wanted me to upgrade it to a current version.  I don't know where to start.  I am greatly appreciated if someone can assist.

Make sure you look at the database versions and installed 3rd party applications.
