Hello,
We've just installed Jira for our office and it's very configurable (which is good). But I'm having trouble getting what we need from it.
Let me outline what we are looking for and hopefully, someone can point me in a good direction.
We need to track time and deadline on project and task/issue level. Edit or change time to completion based on actual time spent on tasks. Hopefully get a % complete on a project and task/issue level.
Can this be done with Jira? I've used the basic task route but it does not allow me to track project time or add deadline. I haven't seen anything for % complete.
Thanks!
@Matthew Craven Do you mean that you are not able to set time estimates on issues/tasks in your projects? If yes, could you please check that "Time Tracking" feature is ON in your JIRA instance, and the "Time Tracking" and "Log Work" fields are already added to the screens used for "Create", "Edit" and "View" Operations (i.e. Screen Scheme) used by the issues/tasks in your project?
This Atlassian documentation might help: https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirasoftwareserver/logging-work-on-issues-939938944.html
Hmm.. I think you can check & try evaluation of JIRA Portfolio for the feature that you are looking for - https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/portfolio
.. or as a alternative maybe Gantt Chart might be usefull - https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/28997/gantt-chart-for-jira

Thanks for the reply! I don't see a way to track tasks inside projects that are also tracked. Am I missing something?

Thanks for the reply! One of the issues I have is that none of the project types allow for time and deadline on projects and issues/tasks inside projects. Is there an addon that could add this feature?

@Matthew CravenIf this works for you to simply set up a deadline date for each task/issue inside the project, then you can use JIRA's "Due Date" field available out-of-the-box, on the screens for each issue/task.

If you want to extend your project's time-tracking capabilities , you can use this add-on from Tempo : https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/6572/tempo-timesheets?hosting=server&tab=overview
