Hi all,
I am building a SAFe like structure in Jira. I have created custom issue types to accommodate different levels of tickets.
I would like to also use the roadmap feature of the classic software project. The roadmap screen and some documentation suggest that it should be possible to create an epic-like issue type.
The community posts suggest otherwise. Did anyone get a roadmap to working with a different issue type than Epic? Can anyone confirm that it is the future feature as it is being mentioned in the documentation?
Thanks a lot
Michal
Hi Michal,
I think that is a feature of Advanced Roadmaps, but not project level roadmaps.
How about trying a third-party add-on that support sprint and release's roadmap? Agile user story map & roadmap function well with story map, user persona and both epic roadmap and sprint - release roadmap.

As @John Funk says the ability to add additional hierarchy levels above Epic is a feature provided by Advanced Roadmaps, and as @Dave Rosenlund _Trundl_ says this is something that comes with Jira Premium and is not available in Jira Standard.
In Jira Standard you have a project Roadmap feature which gives you a Roadmap view of your board / backlog and this only shows Epics. With Advanced Roadmaps you can build a deeper hierarchy structure and map different issues to each hierarchy level.
The only limitation (in terms of setting up a SAFe style structure) is that it is not possible to create the "Feature" level between Epic and Story. This limitation exists for historical reasons. Although you can rename the hierarchy level (and assign additional issue types to it) you can't move the Epic issue type to another level.
Regards,
Dave

+1 to John's answer. You'd have to upgrade to Cloud Premium or Cloud Enterprise to get Advanced Roadmaps.
Alternatively, you might consider one of the following alternatives. You can add any of these to Cloud Standard.
https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?hosting=cloud&product=jira&query=hierarchy
Look for the right (for you) description, installed base, rating, and the right price point for your budget.
Full disclosure: I work for a company that makes one of the options you'll see in the search results, Structure for Jira.
