New JIRA (Cloud) - PEOPLE vs. ROLES vs. GROUPS

Deborah Genevro

Since the new JIRA Experience, in project settings, I've noticed that we now have People instead of Roles.  Only a few project people are populated.

Recognizing that Roles may be better for managing project permissions, my current reality is that my JIRA permissions are largely based on Groups.

I need to do a complete overhaul on my permission schemes and user groups.

Is "People" the same as the old JIRA "Roles"?

Is there a way to update all project roles across multiple projects at once?  I have 62 projects and the project roles are the same.

Also, how do I get a user into the project role?

Any help you can provide will be appreciated!

Yes, it is the same.

Unfortunately, no.  While you can set default members globally for a project role, this only gets applied at the time of new project creation. It does not effect existing projects.  There is an existing feature request to better address the management of this in https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-37399

It is the same as it was when this link was called 'Users/Roles".  You can assign either a user or a group to a project roll of your choosing.  However, now in Cloud, you have to do this via the People link instead.   Steps on doing this are in Managing project role membership.
