New Work Flow and associate with existing project

I've created a new work flow and and will be associating with a new project soon... is there anything I should be on the lookout for? Also we have about 1500 issues in the old work flow any ideas on how long the association with may take?

1,500 issues will take a few seconds if you're using half-decent hardware on the server.

As for gotchas, no not really, as long as you are completely happy with the list of status in the workflow, it's all good (you can do /some/ editing of active workflows without having to migrate - removing status is not an option there, so it's worth getting those right)
