No longer able to change Project Type

Why has Atlassian blocked the ability to change Project type?  I don't need all the backlog and story of Software project type. But I like the ability to create and modify my own Kanban boards.  I like the Business workflow as a starting point and then I add and remove additional workflows and then set up my own Kanban.  Atlassian seems to be making this harder than it was.

Thanks for reaching out to Community!
One of the reasons why the ability to change the project type was removed from Jira Cloud is that, for example, when changing a JSD project to JSW, it requires a board to be created and configured and this change could make a JSW do not work as expected the same as a project already created as an SW type, also changing a JSW to a JSD project results in an unusable SD project.
Now, we must follow the steps provided on the documentation below, to create a new project and bulk move the tickets:
- Convert project to a different template or type
