No option to link a todo item to a user story

When I create a new project in Jira I do not have the option to link the todo items to a story created by me. The link symbol does not show.

I have searched on google and I can not find any option to "turn this option on!

Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

Are there places in other projects where you do see the Link option? Can you provide a screen image of that?

And can you provide a screen image from the new project showing the area where you would expect to see that option, but don't see it?

What are the Types of the projects where you do see the option versus the new projects where you don't? Get that information from the View All Projects page under the Projects menu. Find the projects in the list and tell us what it says in the Type column. Make sure you tell us which project you do see the option in versus which project you don't see the option in.
