Not able to add epic link on child

Manju Rawat November 3, 2022

we have hierarchy like epic, under epic we have test scenario and under test scenario we could see epic link. For each test scenarios we have sub tasks(child issue), but we are not able to tie epic link on these subtask and this is not letting me pull the report which says for "one" epic we have "n" number of task.

Sub-tasks do not have an Epic link, because they are fragments of their parent issue (which do have the Epic link).

It is nonsense to enable an Epic link field on sub-tasks, by definition, a sub-task is included in an Epic by virtue of being a part of its parent.

But for reporting, there is a flaw in Jira in that it should really have sub-tasks report their Epic link, by drawing it down from their parent.

Why are you trying to report on "sub tasks in an Epic" though?  What does it matter that a team has fragmented an issue in an Epic into 0, 1, or 55 pieces?

Yes i agree what you just said.

And, not exactly we want to link an epic in subtask, but we want to pull a matrix that says Epic "A" has "10" sub task with different status (assigned/in progress/Done).
