Not able to move sprint up and down in the Jira backlog

I am a jira admin and one of our user us facing this issue. She is scrum master and have all the permissions to "Manage the Sprint". When she tries to move sprint up or down in Jira bakclog, she gets an error. Both these projects are not connected in any ways. I checked for the filters as well. One board is configured only to one project. What can be the issue?

there was an issue with Sprints which I was able to figure out after the help from Atlassian support. after running DB query was able to find out that one project was using Sprint from another project which was difficult to find out from front end. Removed that sprint from project and issue got resolved. Thanks!!

Hi @Leena Siddamshetty

Can you give me the query that helped you resolve this?

We have the same issue and the error indicates a long list of projects that are not used in the backlog...

Thanks!

Sprints are not directly connected to projects, only the issues within them.  This message suggests that the board and its backlog include issues from two or more projects, of which your user does not have permission for at least one of the projects.

Check her permissions in ALL the projects the board is looking at!

Thanks @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- ,

I did check the board..it is using only one simple filter where project = abc and asc order. No other project that pops up in screenshot is linked anywhere.

Er, "project = abc and asc order" - that's not a valid flter.  What is it actually ordering by?

My guess is that it is not rank.  A board not sorted by rank cannot rank issues (and that includes sprints, because each sprint is a group of issues at the top of the ranked order)

Hello @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- ,

Please see attached screenshot. Also, I am able to move sprint up and down by my ID..but when I impersonate the user's ID not able to do it. She has permissions to manage sprints.

Ok, not the ranking then, which takes us straight back to the user not having the sprint permissions in all the projects named?  Your last screenshot is naming the "Select and Book" project, and the filter picks DSSB, but the error message about permissions mentions Digital Studio Honeybee.

Does the user have sprint management in those two (possibly three) projects?

@Nic Brough -Adaptavist- ,

You are correct..user does not have permission in honeybee project to manage sprint and she is not aware of this other project. I am looking to find out how these 2 projects are linked? I do not see any tickets of honeybee project in Select & Book project. Filters you have seen already..what am I missing?

There is a sprint somewhere that could include issues from both projects.  If your user were able to re-rank issues in the sprint they can see, they would be affecting the ranking of the other sprint.  As they don't have permission to do that, they're not allowed to rank this one either.

can you suggest how to find that out? I checked each and every sprint of both the projects. Cannot find issues of other projects within them. Also, this issue is not limited to one sprint of Select & Book. User is not able to move any of the Sprints in the Select & Book project.

Again, Sprints are not directly connected to projects, only the issues within them.

It's not a case of a sprint containing issues either, it's that they could include issues from both projects.  You'll need to look through the (scrum) boards to find out which ones might be including issues from more than one project.

Yes. I get that. And boards will contain issues based on filters right? So I checked the filters for all the boards as well within both the projects. Nothing I could find that could indicate the link between these 2 projects.
