Not writing date if Exists

Hi all,

I am trying to make a rule for a custom field "Completed Date" where when an issue is moved to "Done", if a date is populated, do nothing. Else, write the current date.

In the atteched rule I created, I just created a rule to check to see if "Completed Date" does not have "/" to indicate a date not set and then set current date. However if it does have a "/", do nothing or ignore.

No matter if a date is already set, when it get moved to "Done" it always overwrites the date and I cannot figure out why my rule doesn't work. 

Any help is appreciated!

Hi @Landin 

I wonder if the smart value you are using in the condition on the custom field is correct.  A couple of things to try to confirm this:

• Add some actions to write the values to the audit log.  That will help see the values being tested.
• Find an example issue with the field filled (or not) as you expect, and then use the REST API to grab the JSON for the issue.  You may then confirm the field's smart value.  Here is the how-to information on that technique: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/find-the-smart-value-for-a-field/
