Notifications to a single watcher

Is it possible to set notifications (or via automation) to send notifications to a single watcher even if there are multiple watchers when something is changed in an issue? All but one of our people don't want emails unless they are mentioned "@", but one person wants all notifications and since he calls the shots I'm trying to accommodate. I'd like it to be a project or global setting so only he gets all notifications.

Hi @Dennis_H

If users don't want to receive notifications unless they are @ mentioned, it would be easier to just remove them as a watcher.

The notification for @ mentions are separate to the notification scheme settings.

The alternative is to modify the notification scheme to:

  • Remove "All Watchers" from the notifications not of interest to other users
  • Add "Single User" to the notifications, specifying that user - and then only that user will receive them

To access the notification schemes, you'll need to be a Jira Admin and then go to Jira Settings > Issues > Notification Schemes (bottom of left-hand menu).

It you do use the notification scheme method - just remember removing "All Watchers" means users who want these notifications in future couldn't choose to receive them via the watcher option - you'd need to control it via user groups, project roles, etc.

I'd also be careful if this is not a global setting for all projects - if it's just one, consider copying the notification scheme and applying it to just the projects require this setup.
