Number of custom fields in a form of table

karolina.kordos August 23, 2024

We would like to track different project KPIs (such as, CAPEX, OPEX, EBIDTA, VOLUMENS, OTHER KPIs) and those will be provided either by controlling or other people on queterly or mothly basis, so in general data shoudl be presented as follows:

|KPI|Q1 2025|Q2 2025| Q3 2025| Q4 2025|TOTAL|

|CAPEX|1000|1000|1000|1000|4000|

|OPEX|2500|2000|150|250|4900|

|VOLUMEN|2500|2500|2500|2500|10000|

However in the future I would like to refer to those data on dashobards or for automation purposes, therefore I thought that this should be a custom fields.

Or perhaps you know any other plug-in that we could use to track this and have an aggregation of this data on portfolio level? I have seen something like that for OPEX, CAPEX, but not for custom KPIs, Do you know any of the plug-in that would allow to create custom financial KPIs that can be later on tracked on project, porfolio level?

Hi @karolina.kordos ,

Very interesting question!

I need to know if you're expecting that your solution will both calculate and present these KPI's based on activity in Jira (like issue worklogs and input costs f ex) or are you just looking for a way to input already (externally) calculated KPI's from an external source and have it displayed on a "project" so we can compare projects in a report?

What is a project for you ? I've seen different designs for this:

  1. a Jira project is equal to a "delivery project"
  2. a Jira project may contain more than one "delivery project"
  3. the content of a "delivery project" is spread on multiple Jira projects

For option 2 and 3 often the issue type hierarchy will represent a projects work breakdown structure, with one issue type at the top representing the whole "delivery project".

Depending on your answer the solution might be very simple or quite complex.

As an example: there are apps on the marketplace that extend reporting to the financial metrics, see these options. There are also apps that are more of BI tools that can calculate pretty much anything you like based on Jira data. Then also depending on your Jira plan (free, standard, premium, enterprise) you are on, you havve different reporting capabilities. Also there is Jira Align which is a full blown enterprise platform connecting business strategy with execution.

All the best

Lisa
