Currently we have four people with their own individual Jira license.
They have requested that we set up one generic email notification which will allow a speedier response should anyone not be available.
1) Is this possible? Is it be possible that all four can have the one email assigned to a license?
2) Would it make more sense to have one license attached to the generic email which can then be managed by a shared inbox
Do not do this with the logins. It's a breach of your licence terms - everyone should have their own account, not a shared login.
But it is perfectly possible to do the notifications. Put your users into a group, and configure the notifications to go to the group. You don't even need to remove the individual notifications, Jira flattens the list of recipients (so if an event were to send an email to me as an individual, me as part of a group, and me because I'm in a project role, I'll only get one email)
Thanks for your response Nic. This sounds like a good idea. I've created the group, added the colleagues to the group and then added the group to the project instance. Hopefully this should work. Thanks

My recommendation is to go with the shared inbox approach, because that let's you handle further email processing through the inbox.
