Only update datetime field if no value is provided during transition

Andrew Dombowsky

Currently have a post-function set for a workflow that updates a datetime customfield with %%CURRENT_DATETIME%% with the append flag checked. Our belief was that this would allow users to enter a date in a field on the transition screen and the append flag would mean that value would NOT be overwritten with today's date. We now realize this is not the actual behaviour and instead the datetime field takes today's date on the post-function regardless of if the field was left empty or not.

What we are looking for:

  1. Case 1 - No value entered on transition screen
    • Field should take today's date
  2. Case 2 - Value entered on transition screen
    • Field should stay as what was entered

I know how to do this with scriptrunner but it's always nicer when I can do it Vanilla. Is this possible with a normal post-function?

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for you question.

I can confirm that it is not possible to achieve these requirements out of the box in Jira Cloud as far as I am aware and that to achieve these requriments you would need to use a third party plugin.

If this answer has solved your issue can you please accept it in order to mark this answer as correct for users who are searching for a similar issue.

Hi Andrew,

I am expecting the solution for the same issue when the date/time field is empty it should provide current date/time otherwise leave as it.

Can u please help us for the solution using scriptrunner?
