Open new issues of same issuetype in other workflow? Is that possible?

Hello,

I have a project with 2 workflows A and B. Workflow A is for issuetype Epic and workflow B is for issuetypes Change and Bug.

From now on we want issuetype Change to use workflow A and keep all current and past Change issues in workflow B. Is that possible?

Thank you for your help.

Hi @Sandra Meessen,

Not within the same Jira Project. A workflow is associated with an issue type. Through a workflow scheme you associate a workflow to an issue type within the context of your project. But as such, the same issue type has a single workflow in a Jira Project.

You have two options:

  • create/use a different issue type to distinguish between the old and new Changes
  • Move your old changes to a different Jira project

Or - of course - change the workflow and move all Changes (including the old ones) to the new workflow.

Hello,

Follow up question: is it possible to stop using issuetype Change, but keep the existing ones? So I disconnect issuetype Change from my project/issuetypescheme, so I can't create new ones, but I want to keep all existing Changes. Is that possible? Thank you.

Hi @Sandra Meessen,

No, that is not possible. If you remove an issue type from an issue type scheme, you will be asked to move the related issues to a new issue type:
