Order Tasks & Subtasks by Epic, Rank?

Scott Love April 2, 2020

All,

Given that Subtasks don't have Epics, ordering by EpicLink doesn't seem to work... is there a way to order a list of issues by Epic, Task, Subtask?

Thanks in advance,

 - Scott

Hi @Scott Love

What problem are you trying to solve?  For example, are you making a combined list of all work with a filter, from parent to child to child...?  If so...

There are marketplace add-ons to support doing this by adding features to enhance JQL.  If you do not want to purchase any of the add-ons, you could either:

  • Export all of the data into a spreadsheet, create a sorting key column, and re-order the list
  • Add some custom fields to support sorting by including the parent's link, and then include those in any ORDER BY statements to form groups.  With this method, consider using automation rules to refresh the custom fields or they could become out of synch with the parent.

Best regards,

Bill
