Some time ago, there was a change in Jira where the "Epic Link" was replaced by the "Parent" field
However, nothing has changed in terms of usage.
We are therefore naturally wondering why this change was made?
Will it perhaps be possible in the future to link not only epics directly to tickets, but also features or other processes?

Prior to this change there was one field used to record the parent issue for a Subtask, another field to record the parent Epic of an issue, and another field used to record the parent issues when the issue hierarchy was extended above Epics.

Now at every level the parent of an issue is recorded in a single custom field named Parent.
Use of the Parent field will still be governed by the issue hierarchy. You can set the Parent field for a given issue only to a type of issue that has been set in the issue hierarchy as a direct parent of the child issue type.
