I have a query that returns a list of issues along with their Parent Links.
The only type of issue that doesn't return any parent link are Bugs.
They are definitely linked to a Story/Improvement.

To clarify, when you mean parent link can I assume that the bug issue type is a sub-task issue type? Or do you mean Issue Link?

It appears that we're creating the bug and then linking it to the issue.
