Parent Ticket Spam

Hello!

We recently migrated from DC to Cloud and are definitely finding some growing pains. Also this might just be my own ignorance.

I am very familiar with Automation for Jira and have recently set up a new rule. I have a type of issue that needs the assignee, component, and Epic set on creation. I have used the Parent field, as I know Epic was deprecated in Cloud and I turned off the notifications for this rule so it doesn't spam us. 

Every time I make a new ticket, I get an email that tells me the parent was updated. So it's listening to the "don't notify" for assignee and component, but for some reason is still sending them for parent. Is there somewhere else I need to update the notifications for parent?

I am the site admin on an enterprise instance, but do not have global admin permissions.

This is now happening on bulk changes as well. The only item I am updating with the bulk change is the epic and I DO NOT have "send mail for this update" checked in the bulk editor, yet my poor users are being spammed as I update thousands of epics to realign them.

Have you raised a ticket with Atlassian Support about this? 

My expectation would be that neither this rule by itself nor Bulk Change should send out a notification when the Parent field is updated if you have disabled the "send notifications" option

Perhaps Atlassian Support can provide an explanation. And if they do, it would be great if you share what you learn.

Hi Cailin,

Check the Notification Scheme to see if it is sending a notification for Edit Work Item, and to whom it is sending.

I do want edit work item notices to be sent, just not this specific epic/parent assignment, which is why I turned off the notifications for the automation.

Can you share the following information?

  1. Screen images showing the entire rule.
  2. Details of the step where you are setting the Parent field.
  3. A screen image of one of the notifications you have received.
