Parent issue cannot be closed with archived child issue not in a terminal status

After archiving Stories that were not in Done or Cancelled status, we have been unable to close parent Features containing those stories. It is as if automation features still see the child items while in archive.

I recall there is a related defect for the opposite condition: the parent is archived and the transition is attempted on the children, leading to an un-displayed error.  The only "workaround" for those was to unarchive or remove the parent / child relationship.

As you are on an Enterprise license level, I recommend working with your Jira Product Admin to submit a ticket to Atlassian Support to take a look:

Yes, automation would still see them in this case even if they are archived. You need to unarchive them and move them to some Done category status like Canceled if you are not going to do them. Then archive them again and you should be able to complete the automation.
