Permissions for project

Xiaowei Tsui October 20, 2021

Situation: we used to work with groups permissions but changed to roles.

default access groups:

               -Jira-software-users

Would like to have for Jira Software new projects: Permissions:

-Users can only see the project that they are working on

-Users are not allowed to see other projects

-Users can only perform actions that are set according to the project permission scheme: defined in roles (settings-system-project roles)

-invite people to the project:

Project settings -  People – add people (with the role)

What does the Jira-software-users group do? Do I still need this?

Do I need to change settings in the Issue Security?  (because I don’t want other people to see the project unless you are invited to the project)

You do need the "jira-software-users" group.

If you enable Jira access for a User, they are automatically added to that group. If you disable Jira access for a User, they are automatically removed from that group.

Likewise, if you remove a User from that Group, they will loose access to all of Jira.

However, you do not need to use that Group in any Permission Scheme.

It looks to me like you can set your Permissions the way you want, without having to worry about Issue Security. It sounds very similar to what we are using. Focusing on Project Roles for Permission Schemes is a good way to go.
