Please fix file attachment function

Caleb Ruzicka October 2, 2024

Issues with attaching on Jira issues:

* Allowed file size is too small. I have to upload my files to a cloud service and attach the link. I use screen recordings often and the size limit is incredibly prohibitive.

* Allowed file types won't save consistently in a comment. I usually have to finish my comment and attach the file to the ticket itself. This is an issue because you can't reference the attachment via link so people miss stuff

* Allowed file types doesn't cover enough file types. I use lots of tools for testing and they all have their own formats. Please update your allowed file list to be more comprehensive.

Hi @Caleb Ruzicka welcome to the community.  How big of files are you looking to add?  My Jira instance is configured for up to 2GB files.  You can use this Community Article to get the steps to change the size.

I'm not sure what file types you are trying to add, but I didn't see any open issues on Atlassian's Jira Site to add more.  You could contact Atlassian Support, they might be able to assist.

Hope that helps.

Nothing even close to a gig. It seems we are stuck at the default 10mb limit. Most my attachments are screenshots/recordings that are usually around 30-50mb. I've been getting around it using Google Drive then commenting with links to the drive item but that is super tedious and dumb.

I'm going to send them more of this information and possibly request they reach out to support.
