Portfolio Parent link behaviour

Hi!

I find it rather confusing that the level below epic cannot use Parent link, but only the standard epic link. If I understand this correctly, this means that I need to use both epic link and parent link to be able to link issues through the hierarchy. Is this correct?

To overcome this and only use parent link, my idea was to skip Epics for a certain projects. I would then assume that I then should be able to link a Story to a Feature using the parent link since Epic is not part of the Issue type scheme for these specific projects. But it seems that since my Portfolio hierarchy is configured Feature->Epic->Story, it doesn't matter that Epic isn't part of the specific project. And it seems like Epic cannot be removed from the Hierarchy (even though I would not like to remove Epics since some projects might only use Story (or any other standard issue type) and Epics and then can rely only on Epic links)

Any ideas how to overcome the issue of having to use different types of links as described?
