Program epic should link to 1 initiative

We have a requirement where we want

1. A given program epic should link to 1 initiative- Initiatives can have multiple program epic or epics. Epics can have one initiative or one program epic.

2. A given epic should only link to one program epic- Program epics can have many epics.

3. Can we automate linked issues field in jira

Can I confirm - are you on Jira Server or Data Center?

What's the hierarchy you're trying to implement here? From your question it sounds like...

• Initiative
• Program Epic
• Epic

^ Is this correct? In this instance...

• Program Epics can have one parent Initiative
• Initiatives can have many children Program Epics
• Epics can have one parent Program Epic
• Program Epics can have many children Epics

^ This assumes no grandparent linking (i.e Epics as children of Initiatives).

If this is all correct - why are you looking to use Linked Issues? Wouldn't the Issue Hierarchy in Advanced Roadmaps be easier?
