Hello,

Is there a possibility to provide access only to a Jira Board for an external person of our company?

Thank you for your help !

Kind regards,

Youri

Hi @Youri Soposki,

Access to a board requires access from the user to the issues displayed on it. Access there is part of Jira Software functionality, which requires:

  • a user license to access Jira Software;
  • (at least) browse project permission to the project where the issue is stored.

You can definitely grant that access to an external user, as long as you ensure the above conditions are met. Basically:

  • Create an account for the user;
  • Grant that account access to JSW;
  • Grant the browse project permission to the right project(s)

A side effect of your question may be that you may notice some of your other projects turn out to be accessible at first to that user. That commonly happens because default permission schemes in Jira by default grant browse project permissions to Any logged in user. Which is basically every licensed user. To restrict that undesired access to your projects, you should remove that permission grant from your permission schemes and implement a more controlled way of granting permissions to your actual users.

Hope this helps!
