Hello, everyone! How are you?
In Jira Software, you can create a form and make it public. I would like to know if I can add custom fields to the forms. Apparently, some are restricted and others that I created in the system do not appear as an option to add to the form.
Hi, @Kauana Rodrigues dos Santos 👋
You're right — with Jira's native public forms, you're currently limited to only those fields that are already present on the issue’s create screen, and custom fields can’t always be added or used as flexibly as you'd like — especially for more complex intake workflows.
If you’re looking for more control over custom fields and form behavior, you might want to take a look at Smart Forms for Jira (available on the Marketplace). It allows you to:
Add custom fields (including ones not shown on the issue screen)
Use non-issue fields just for form logic or internal data collection
Dynamically pre-fill field options from Jira (like dropdowns for assignees, components, etc.)
Map form responses directly to custom Jira fields — or combine multiple responses into one
Share public forms and still map them cleanly into Jira issues without exposing sensitive fields
It’s been a really useful option for teams that need structured, flexible intake without the limitations of the native forms setup.
Let me know if you’d like a setup example — happy to share!
Hi @Kauana Rodrigues dos Santos
Below is a link from Atlassian Docs that provides details about the fields you can add to your forms:
https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/add-or-remove-fields-from-your-form/
It seems like you can add more custom fields.
Best,
Fadoua
