Query behind Team Managed Projects

Before I joined, the engineering team decided to use Team Managed Projects for simplicity.  Moving the Company Managed is not an option at this time.  

I would like to change the query that is automatically generated when a Team Managed Project is created. I want to pull in select issues from other projects into this Team Managed board.   Is this possible?  

I know I can add a custom query but that will not resolve what I want to do.

That is not possible yet for team-managed projects.  Here is a suggestion to add that feature, which you may watch/vote for to see progress: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-17770
